Tour the Dargaville countryside and surrounds on a self-drive rail cart tour.
Travel along unused Northland railway lines between either Dargaville to Tangowahine or Dargaville to Waiotira.
Tours run daily but bookings are essential. Tea and coffee are supplied along with stories of the local history.

Tangowahine trip
Travel along the historic Northern Wairoa River and through farmland while enjoying the beautiful views and smells of the wild honeysuckle.
This trip is suitable for the whole family, even well-behaved dogs.
- Departing 11am daily (bookings are essential)
- Duration: 2 – 2 ½ hours
- Seating capacity: Each cart can carry up to 4 adults, or 2 adults and 2 children, or 2 adults and 3 smaller sized children. Only your group members will share your Cart.
- What to bring: For those who want to take the wheel, you will need to bring a valid driving license. Warm clothing, enclosed footwear (no open toed shoes), windbreaker, water and camera.

Waiotira Junction trip
Our Waiotira trip transverses through native bush, farms, forestry blocks and along the rail corridor from Dargaville to Waiotira. We will travel over 21 bridges and through 2 tunnels (with the longest being 638 meters long).
We will supply morning tea and hot drinks, please bring your own lunch. There are 2 toilet stops on the way.
- Duration: 7-8 hours return
- Departs: 9am, please arrive ten minutes early

This trip is not suitable for children due to the journey length, but for the little ones we recommend our 2.5 hour trip to Tangowahine.
