A short drive through Waihi’s countryside leads to the Orokawa Bay Retreat with a panoramic view of the ocean.

Sleeping from 2 to 8 guests, guests are assured private use of the whole retreat, making it a wonderfully relaxing space to enjoy.

The ever-changing vista of Tuhua (Mayor Island) along the coast to Mauao (Mount Maunganui) and beyond the Bay of Plenty coastline is framed by wall-wide bi-fold doors throughout the retreat space for an effortless flow from comfort to natural surrounds.

Custom-designed in 2005, the ever-changing views and peaceful location of Orokawa Bay Retreat offer a secluded yet contemporary experience.

A private retreat for couples or a small group, whether one bedroom or all four rooms are booked, guests enjoy private use of the entire retreat.

Accessed through the outdoor atrium, each of the four bedrooms offer Super King or twin king-single beds with wall to ceiling tiled ensuite bathrooms, one of which is fully wheelchair accessible, as is the entire retreat. The open plan kitchen, dining and living area is spacious with open beams and wide bi-fold doors on either side.

Cathedral Cove and Coromandel’s beautiful beaches await in the North, Hobbiton to the East, and iconic visitor attractions in Rotorua and Mount Maunganui are to the South.

Walk the reknowned Orokawa Bay coastal track of Waihi Beach, explore the history and artisan of Waihi township, or try the famous Hauraki Rail Trail in Karangahake Gorge.

Your hosts Mike and Sheryl are also available to make local recommendations and arrange onsite services such as beauty treatments and massage upon request.

Guests are personally welcomed to the retreat. We are proud to support local artists in the area and will happily provide you with information about what is showcased in the retreat too.

At Orokawa Bay Retreat we care about the environment and in the last two years have planted over 400 locally-sourced native plants on the property. We offer recycling systems and ways for guests to achieve a more sustainable stay.

Being immersed in the landscape, it is common for birds such as the piwakawaka (fantail), tui and swallows to visit and enjoy the space too!
