About Mercury Bay
The Mercury Bay area on the Coromandel Peninsula boasts stunning beaches and bays. Azure blue waters lap against pristine white sands, while bush-clad hills shelter the bays, enhancing the area’s natural beauty.
Whitianga, an appealing township with a deep water harbour, is the central hub for fishing enthusiasts, charter boats, and scenic cruises. Mercury Bay offers several launching ramps for those with their own boats.
Across the Bay
A delightful excursion for all ages is the ferry crossing to Ferry Landing, where passengers disembark at the oldest stone wharf in Australasia.
From the ferry, a short walk up the hill leads to Front Beach and then on to Flaxmill Bay. Cooks Beach, a beautiful crescent-shaped stretch of white sand about 3 km long, lies between Cooks Beach and Flaxmill Bay. Nearby, Shakespeare’s Cliff is a stunning scenic reserve with a short track leading to a vantage point offering memorable views of Mercury Bay.
