Nevalea Alpacas Taumarunui is the largest Alpaca Farm in New Zealand and home to over 1000 friendly alpacas.

Nevalea Alpacas is located about half way between Waitomo and Mt Ruapehu, just 10 minutes north of Taumarunui, on State Highway 4 in the central North Island.

We offer visitors ‘The Ultimate Alpaca Experience’ and have a range of different activities to choose from to give visitors an opportunity to get up close to the alpacas, hand feed them and feel just how soft and cuddly the alpacas are.
We operate alpaca treks through the summer months, where visitors can walk an alpaca around the farm and see hundreds of alpaca come to greet them in the hills, spectacular views surrounded by alpacas. We also offer a shorter alpaca walk throughout the year as another option.
We have cria (baby alpacas) all year-round, and for a unique opportunity offer visitors the chance to have a cuddle with a baby alpaca. Great up close and personal experiences and chances for some amazing photos.
North Island Alpaca Farm
- Alpaca Encounter (30 minute tour) – Get up close with our friendly alpacas, take an alpaca for a short walk down ‘Alpaca Lane” and hand feed our friendly alpacas.
- Ultimate Alpaca Experience (1 Hour Tour) – An Ultimate up-close alpaca experience, take an alpaca for a short walk around the farm, hand feed the alpacas and have a cuddle with a baby alpaca.
- Amazing Alpaca Adventure (1.5 Hour Tour) – Join us for an Alpaca Adventure, take an alpaca for a walk around the farm, hand feed the alpacas, have a cuddle with a baby alpaca, then join us for a felted soap workshop.
- Meet the Alpacas (15 minutes) – An opportunity to get up close to our friendly alpacas and take photos. Meet and hand feed the Alpacas.
- Picnic’s with the Alpacas – Come relax after your activity with a picnic with the alpacas. We have two picnic hamper options to choose from, Option 1 is a morning or afternoon tea hamper & Option 2 is a lunch hamper.
- Felt Soap Workshop (30 minutes) – Come and learn a new craft, a great activity for the whole family to do together.

Our alpaca products are made from the alpacas that live here at Nevalea Alpacas, in Taumarunui, New Zealand and the majority of our products are also made right here on our farm.
Our alpaca wool is super soft baby alpaca that is lovely and soft and beautiful to wear. Alpaca fibre is a natural insulator, making it one of the warmest weatherproof fibres on the market. (30% warmer than sheep’s wool) It also allows for breathability in warmer climates and can be extremely lightweight. This multi-functionality makes alpaca fibre products perfect for every climate. There is no lanolin in alpaca fibre making it hypo-allergenic, perfect for sensitive skin.
