One of Auckland’s Top Visitor Attractions.
Enjoy astronomy shows, Auckland stargazing, telescopes, sci-fi and school holiday fun at Stardome Auckland.
Stardome Auckland has recently reopened after a significant renovation. Its new galleries are vibrant and hands-on, and place science and mātauranga Māori alongside each other with the aim of reconnecting people to the cosmos.
The content, in combination with the planetarium and telescope viewing, offers visitors a chance to learn how to identify stars and planets in the skies above Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland.
Our mission is to be a trusted centre for sharing astronomy and mātauranga in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland. We offer visitors the experience of learning with entertainment in a planetarium and observatory environment.
Stardome is also the first place in Aotearoa New Zealand to offer a comprehensive star map with the Māori names of whetū, planets and constellations.

School Trips to Stardome
A trip to Stardome aims to support your class plan by showing ākonga the fundamental principles of astronomy, how amazing space is, and how precious our Earth is!
We want young people to ask the BIG questions – what else is out there? How far can we go? How did it all begin? We want everyone to look up, feel small, but think big.
Depending on the year level, ākonga will enjoy some activity-based learning in the classroom, time in the Space Gallery & Exhibits area, and a planetarium show in the 360-degree theatre. This immersive experience brings to life the concepts and ideas of astronomy and space exploration giving context to what they are learning in class at school.
